The History of Tulum
The Mayan ruins at nearby Tulum are unquestionably one of the greatest Ruins in all of Mexico. Thousands flock each year to experience the breathtaking surroundings and gorgeous views of the Caribbean. The Ruins are located only about a 45-minute drive from Playa Del Carmen and is well worth the trip. Tulum flourished as a city on the Coast of the Mayan Riviera in the 13 th through 15 th century. The Spanish arrived around the early 16 th century. Excavations did not start until around the early 20 th century by western scientists.
The site of Tulum has about 50 preserved buildings - the most popular of the buildings have information on history of these magnificent monuments at location.
